Queensbury Hospital is the latest addition to the field of private healthcare services in the area. With the shifting of Galle General Hospital to new building complex in Karapitiya and establishment of Medical faculty of Ruhuna University in the same area was the beginning of new chapter of developing this small town as the medical hub of Galle District. The Galle Maternity Hospital also is due to shift to new building complex in same area soon. However, private hospitals which were established in Galle city centre still not shifted to nearby areas except only one new private hospital started and functioning. There was a growing demand for quality private health care services in Karapitiya and establishment of Queensbury hospital is to fill this vacuum to a certain extent.
